CalFresh BENEFITS

What is CalFresh? What is an EBT Card?

CalFresh issues monthly electronic benefits (money) on an “EBT card” that can be used to purchase groceries at locations that accept CalFresh.

An EBT Card is basically a debit card for groceries!

Where can I use my EBT Card?

You can use your EBT card in many places. Check out the variety of places that accepts EBT!

Market Match Places (Double your EBT!)

What is Market Match?

Market Match is a program that matches CalFresh benefits at participating farmers markets. In the majority of the farmers markets, you can receive $10 of matched vouchers or tokens. So how does it work?

1. Find the Farmers’ Market

Use the Farmers’ Market Finder map to search for farmers’ markets that accept CalFresh EBT and offer MarketMatch.

2. Receive Tokens or Vouchers

Go to the market’s information booth and ask how to receive Market Match. A representative will swipe your EBT Cards for the amount of your choice and you will receive tokens or paper vouchers to spend on CalFresh-eligible food items in the market.

3. Receive Market Match

The representative will match your CalFresh benefits, providing you with Market Match tokens/vouches to spend on fruits and vegetables.

4. Spend Your Market Match

Spend the Market Match tokens/vouches with any farmer in the market that sells fresh fruit, vegetables, or fresh-cut herbs!

Use your CalFresh EBT card and Market Match will double your food dollars! Talk to your participating Farmers Market Manager for further details.

Farmers Markets

Why shop at Farmers Markets?

  • Fresh: Farmers Markets offer the freshest produce. Produce is often harvested on the same day of the market. While you are eating the freshest food, you are eating the healthiest food too!
  • Fun: Farmers markets are a fun place to meet up with friends, listen to music, and catch a cooking demonstration while you shop outside.
  • Safe: When you buy locally grown food, you know where your food is coming from and you can meet the people who grow it.
  • Affordable: Buying fruit and vegetables when they are in-season saves money.
