SERVICES DURING COVID-19

Due to recent COVID-19 developments, please refer to this page for frequent updates regarding our hours of operation, services, and procedures for the FRESH Basic Needs Hub's services. Please also be note that our pantry distribution processes have been temporarily modified to align with COVID-19 social distancing and safety guidelines. Thank you for your patience and please make sure to reach out of you need support! As always, we wish everyone health, happiness, and peace!

As of June 2021, we require staff and visitors to wear a face covering and social distance. We are waiting for campus directives for any future changes and will update our website accordingly once changes arrive.

Pantry Distribution

Pantry Distribution Appt.

Our pantry distributions will be held indoors beginning August 2021. Students experiencing a food security emergency may sign up to book an appointment to visit our weekly pantry distribution.

Our new hours of operation to pick up emergency food and toiletries are Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for September 2021. The appointment link page will be available at least 5 days prior to the upcoming distribution, usually on Fridays.

**Please note that these dates and hours below are subject to change at any point in the future.** Please read below so you can be ready before arrival:

September Pantry Distribution Dates & Hours:

  • Wednesdays 11am-4pm
  • Thursdays 2pm-6:30pm
  • Fridays 10am-2pm

Pantry appointment links will be updated the Friday prior to the distribution day.


Before Arrival:

  1. Please book an appointment to secure your spot.
  2. Submit your Fall 2021 FRESH Hub Membership Registration Form.
  3. Complete your Daily Symptom Check and be ready to show your ZotPass at the Registration table.
  4. Come to FRESH at your timeslot on the scheduled distribution date AND bring your own bags! (If you are running late, please make sure to arrive before the end of the distribution time).
  5. A parking permit will be required to park anywhere at UCI starting July 1st, 2021.
CalFresh

Virtual CalFresh

Virtual CalFresh Assistance

FRESH is offering application assistance via Zoom conferencing software. Through this method, we will have one of our staff guide you through the CalFresh application remotely while you complete it on your own (through the feature of screen sharing). If you are living with family members and buying/sharing food with them, please be aware that you will have to apply with them. Please consult your family before signing-up for an appointment. Please also be aware that we will need everyone’s documents on the application as well, including everyone's IDs, Social Security Numbers, and pay stubs for every employed family member.

Emergency Meal Swipes

Emergency Meal Swipes

The Emergency Meal Swipes help students who are experiencing food insecurity and/or a student-related emergency, access several healthy and well-balanced meals offered at UCI's Dining Commons. This program is paused for Summer 2021 as the Dining Commons are closed during Summer remote learning. The program will resume once the Dining Commons reopen early Fall 2021.

Social Worker Consultations

Basic Needs Social Worker

FRESH Social Worker Consultations are confidential Zoom appointments with our basic needs clinical social worker to provide support and guidance to students experiencing financial stress, food/housing insecurity, and other stressors or complex needs.

Do you have additional basic needs questions or need help navigating campus and community resources? Book a 30-minute consultation via Zoom with our Campus Social Worker, Peter Thach! If you have trouble finding an available appointment slot, please mail us at fresh@uci.edu . 

Economic Crisis Response Grant

Economic Crisis Response Grant

The Economic Crisis Response Grant is a case-specific, university intervention to be utilized to address a student's financial crisis. A student under consideration for the Economic Crisis Response (ECR) grant must: Be a currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student at the UCI, demonstrate a financial crisis that is affecting their access to housing, food, medical and/or mental health care, AND must have used all of their loans available to them.

For food donations, we accept non-perishable and perishable goods as long as they are unopened and unexpired.

We also accept monetary donations through the UCI Portal.
