Andrea Gutierrez grew up in Lima, Peru and migrated to the US at the age of 15. She’s a proud 1st Generation, non-traditional UCI alumna and worked on campus as the inaugural Basic Needs Coordinator and now, Director. In her role, she manages the daily operations and programmatic activities of the FRESH Basic Needs Hub, which houses our campus food pantry and holistic resources and programs to ensure students basic necessities are met. She participates in campus-wide efforts to address student basic needs insecurities and advises student leaders. She also serves as co-chair for the campus and Systemwide Basic Needs Committee, which is part of the University of California Global Food Initiative. Andrea is passionate about food equity and access to higher education and she is a recipient of the 2017 Dynamic Woman of UCI Award for Social Justice and the 2018 Distinguished Leadership Award for the Latinx Community at UCI.
